無論詞曲皆出於Michael Jackson的手筆.
這首歌的大意在講述種族歧視待遇,
並呼籲國家(美國)要正視黑人白人間
種種不平等的情況 ..
以麥可傑克森的名聲和地位來唱這種歌曲,
自然 得到更大的迴響, 也希望藉著此曲激勵黑人.
Michael Jackson雖名利雙收, 但身為一個黑人來說, 種族之間的不平等
應是從小時就已產生的觀感, 這應該是其中遠因

另一個促使他寫They Don't Care About Us的主因應該是發生於1992年的

洛杉磯暴動. 一九九二年，四名用警棍痛毆黑人羅德尼．金恩（Rodney King）的白人警員被判無罪，
而引發洛杉磯大暴亂，造成五十五人死亡，兩千人受傷，一千餘棟建築損毀，財產損失九億美元以上。
洛杉磯一向強調族裔和諧，有多元的族裔群體，但該事件讓人感到族裔關係非常脆弱，禁不起一點風波。
